On Monday morning, the 5th of September 2011, Yvette Balt, Technical Director of Munsoft (Pty) Ltd. got a phone call from one of the employees at Dr. JS Moroka LM informing her that the computer room at the Municipal Offices has been completely gutted in a fire.
He was not sure if there was a backup tape offsite and said that all the backup tapes in the computer room have obviously been destroyed as well.
Fortunately Dr. JS Moroka LM is on our Munsoft/Telkom Managed Private Network and have also subscribed to our Munsoft Disaster Recovery System which we have outsourced to ITNA (Pty) Ltd. in Centurion.
We contacted Marius from ITNA and by 10:00, 3 hours after being informed of the fire he had restored the latest Data Backup from the Attix Backup Server onto the Munsoft Disaster Recovery System and re activated all the users and passwords. They did not lose one single transaction and were up and running as at close of business Friday afternoon before the weekend.
All the ‘key’ users are now logging onto the Disaster Server in Centurion using 3G cards and laptops via the Munsoft Diginet “Cloud”.
