Frequently Asked Questions

You do your normal Month-End runs at Year-end. Munsoft Classic will know it is the last month of the Financial Year and perform all the Year-End Function automatically. Your I & E Votes will be cleared for the new financial year and the balance will be posted to the Appropriation Account automatically. New calendars will be set up automatically for the new financial year.

The Available Budget is checked on every expenditure transaction. If there is not enough Budget, a Budget Adjustment or a Budget Transfer from another Vote will have to be done.

Being on an Oracle Data Base, a ‘Roll Back’ Function will be performed and put the system back to a state just before the failure.

Munsoft will perform an automatic Back-Up

Oracle is the leading database supplier in the world – and for good reason! Since we began installing Munsoft  in June of 2003, we have not had ONE data corruption For the smaller user (10 – 50 users), Oracle Standard Edition One only costs approximately R 1000.00 per user. A small price to pay for data integrity and reliability!

Munsoft Classic is developed in an Object Oriented programming Language called PRO IV. PRO IV is developed and continually enhanced by a London Stock Exchange listed company called Northgate Information Systems. The PRO IV Run Time charge is paid to Northgate for the license to use and the ongoing development of new features for PRO IV developed systems.
This means that Munsoft Classic will ALWAYS be up-to-date with the latest software technology.

This does vary according to each project requirement. Ideally we plan for a 4 month project time line.

Month 1. - Project establishment, IT infrastructure, data conversion programming

Month 2. - User training, test conversions, system configuration, data conversion test & balancing

Month 3. - 2nd data conversion, some parallel transactions, on-site support, end of month final data conversion.

Month 4. – Live operations, on-site support services.

The answer to this is better answered by responding to the question “what makes a bad implementation?” Simply put, the answer to this is when the users do not want to be involved and they adopt a “call me when it’s ready” approach. The best implementations are with committed senior management support combined with a (senior) dedicated user project interface to ensure that all municipal project responsibilities are met.

This is provided on-line backed up by on-site support when necessary.

Support services are the subject of a Service Level Agreement and the Municipality must provide a Diginet Line for on-line support as part of this agreement.

We have a Web based call logging system where the Municipal Systems Administrator logs a support request and receives an e-mail confirmation of the Log number together with proof of date and time of the support request.

The SLA specifies the time to respond to support and this is used to measure support performance.

We offer additional user training at our offices in Johannesburg or at a convenient point for the Municipality.

We have a training facility at our Offices and a mobile training facility comprising 6 Laptops configured for training.

Each Module in the system has a user reference manual.

Oracle is the world leading database and it is both affordable and really reliable. Because Munsoft is on Oracle, we are compatible with Microsoft Desktop productivity software and integration to other systems becomes a simple task. We have created data views for our users to extract data directly from Oracle to a MS Excel spreadsheet.
